Event Start Times and Durations in DutyMan Calendar Feeds
Start times and durations can optionally be specified for events in DutyMan. An event can have a start time or a duration or both or neither. Regardless of whether or not start times or durations have been specified events in DutyMan calendar feeds are always shown as all day. This article describes how start times and durations, when available, are presented in DutyMan calendar feeds.
Start Times
DutyMan stores event start times as Local Times (LT). This means that a start time of 10:30 for an event in Australia and a start time of 10:30 for an event in the UK are both correct in their respective countries though not the same times of day when viewed from space. Google, iPhone and Microsoft Outlook calendars however store their event times in Cordinated Universal Time (UTC) and convert them to your Local Time of your device. DutyMan does not have available the information necessary to reliably convert local times to UTC times taking into account international time zones and daylight saving times. Consequently all events in DutyMan calendar feeds are shown as all day and event start times, when available, are shown in event descriptions.
Durations
When a calendar feed specifies a duration for an all day event calendars tend to show it as an event end time of that duration after midnight. For example an event with a 6 hour duration is shown as starting at 00:00 and ending at 06:00. This is unlikely to be true so event durations, when available, are shown in event descriptions.
